Sermon text for December 30th – Luke 11:14-23

14 Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the people marveled. 15 But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of demons,” 16 while others, to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. 18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. 19 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 20 But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; 22 but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil. 23 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

  1. Hey there at Oikos Church! This is David Cole, the Arts Pastor at 1.21 Church. I don’t know if we’ve met yet, I’ve just starting meeting many of the a29 guys on the west coast. I met Mike from Soteria at the last bootcamp in Raleigh. He’s a great guy.

I randomly stumbled across your blog tonight as I was searching for my own church on Google to see what came up (yes, the first step to nerd recovery is confession). I noticed though, that your link points to our old website, so I thought I’d drop a line and let you know.

Hope all is well in my old home state (I lived in Seattle from 2001-2006, UW alum and all, miss it terribly!). Happy new year!

  2. Hi David…

I don’t think we’ve met yet. We roomed with Will and Linda a couple years back at the A29 retreat in Boulder though (please pass along our hellos). Thanks for the heads up about the link. Washington’s doing well…wet, windy, a little snow here and there, but beautiful. I feel bad that noone seemed to let you know about the really great university in the state…you probably know them as the ones who won the Apple Cup this year? 🙂

    Looking forward to meeting you.
