Yet one more reason to appreciate and read Lewis. I got this – it comes from The Four Loves – from 9 Marks’ material for membership classes (which is a great resource, by the way). I’ve found it to be a great quote for talking about the need for church membership.
For the Christian, there are, strictly speaking, no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you” can truly say to every group of Christian friends, “You have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another!” The friendship is not a reward for our discrimination and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each the beauties of all the others.
It’s time for community groups to form up and get going at Oikos. Whether you are a regular attender or looking for a place to find good Christian fellowship, we invite you to join us. The groups will be meeting at different places around Bellingham on either Monday or Tuesday night. More information about locations and contact info will be available soon…just keep checking back here or at the church’s website.
